Why Is It Important to Stay Hydrated?
Water is Life. This incredible element is the foundation of life, as all living beings need water to sustain their bodily functions. The earth is made up of about 70% water and our body is made up of around 60%!
Keeping our bodies hydrated not only allows our vessels to operate optimally so we can show up for this life and our purposes; it also helps balance our spiritual and emotional well-being and heals us on a cellular level.
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine determined that an adequate daily fluid intake is: About 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) of fluids for men, and about 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) of fluids a day for women.
It may sometimes seem difficult to remember to drink enough water throughout your daily life, but educating yourself on how vital it is for the overall health will motivate us to be mindful of this amazing habit!
Here are 3 reasons why it's so important to stay hydrated!
Most people are concerned with getting enough protein, building muscles and looking strong. While this is important, the true strength is feeding and hydrating your vessels on a cellular level!
Water carries and transports nutrients to your cells, which allows all the systems in your body to do their work successfully. As a major component of the blood, water helps move glucose, water-soluble vitamins, minerals, other nutrients to the cells and where they need to go. Water also brings oxygen to the cells!
Being properly hydrated also helps our mood stay heightened and balanced. Feeling dehydrated is frustrating and creates irritability within us. The resulting factors of headaches and fatigue deeply affects our emotional state as well. The University of Connecticut study found that drinking water has a “significant impact” on alleviating depression and helping with concentration. It can also help with sleep disorders. Since your brain is mostly water, drinking it helps you in a number of ways!
Our body accumulates a large amount of toxins from pesticides and heavy metals in our food, pollutants in the air, and chemicals in our skin products. Drinking cleansing, rejuvenating water consistently helps flush and release all that does not serve our body through our urine and sweat.
While our kidneys naturally filter waste from our body, they do require adequate water intake to function at their optimal performance.
When our bodies are dehydrated, the elimination of waste is diminished.
There are many aggressors within our environment and food (and even unfiltered water that contains contaminants!) that are hurting our bodies, but the great news is that high quality, pure water can help cleanse us.
Staying properly hydrated includes drinking enough volume of water in your daily life, and that water is most replenishing for our bodies when it's clean, hydrogen-rich and alkaline.
A good indicator to help identify whether you’re sufficiently hydrated is that one should rarely actually feel thirsty, and your urine should be almost colorless.
You can also amp up your water intake by eating plenty of water-rich foods like fruits and veggies. Watermelon, strawberries, cantaloupe, peaches, lettuce, cucumbers, celery and zucchini all contain over 90% water!
Drinking filtered, pure water out of stainless steel drinkware keeps our bodies clear of toxins, chemical additives in plastics and harmful metals that can leach into the water we drink when it's stored or served in those containers.
My favorite go-to drinkware to help me stay hydrated and inject a burst of cheerful color into everyday is the Greens Steel Beast Tumbler for when I'm at home and in the car, or the Greens Steel Stainless Steel Water Bottle when I'm out on an adventure or running errands.
I pray you and your family have access to high quality water and remember to drink enough throughout the day so you can feel amazing. We all deserve to feel healthy and happy in this lifetime... After all, that's why we are here on this beautiful planet! :)
